Tips To Overcome A Sweet Tooth
Ouch, I have toothache, again! It was around two weeks ago, went for a week and now its back! How painful. Oh yes, I’ve tried everything, been to the dentist, antibiotics, twice. Clove oil, pain killers, it’s still around. Apart from searching for ’self dentistry on youtube’, I’m about to crumble!
Anyway, while I’m on the topic of teeth and with Easter just a few days away, I thought I’d take time out rolling around on the floor in agony to bring you a few tips on how to overcome your sweet tooth. Now, I’m not saying you shouldn’t have a treat on Easter Sunday, in fact go for it (my grandma used to say ‘here’s a chocolate orange, there’s a lot more chocolate in those than those Easter eggs, bless), but if you do find yourself on a day to day basis going for the sweet cupboard (you have one? yes you do!), then hopefully these tips will help.
Understand It’s A Ritual
After each meal, are you always grabbing a bowl of ice cream of a cake? Think you have a ’sweet tooth?’. Chances are you have just conditioned yourself to this routine. Here’s a clever trick to get out of the cycle. If you have a ’sweet’ after every meal, then drop down to 6 our of 7 days in week one, then down to 5 out of 7 days in week two and so on. Just like putting sugar in your tea, if you ween your way off, it will be much easier then stopping in one go.
Balance Your Blood Sugar
If you’re using The Lunch Box Diet then chances are your blood sugar levels have stabilized and you’re not reaching for the sweet stuff so often. If you’re not, start to eat small regular meals to prevent the need for snacking and foods that will stimulate sugar cravings. When cravings strike, eat something healthy and then chances are you’ll not want the sweet food after all.
Understand that the more sweet foods you eat, the more your body will get a ’sweet tooth’. In those vital moments of decision, remember this as the next step will be stacking up more and more ’sweet tooth’ cells until its so high you won’t be able to get out! Ahhh, the deeper the hole gets, the harder it is to get out as they say and you’ll be paying more visits to the dentist (he says with toothache, lol).
Change State, Quickly!
When the sweet tooth is screaming: GO GRAB THAT CAKE, A PACKET OF SWEETS, GET ME SOMETHING SUGARY, NOW, be sure to take a deep breathe and do anything that takes your mind away from the little monster. Exercise, phone a friend, make sweet sweet love, whatever it takes to take your mind off it!
Pleasure or Pain?
Think of your favourite sweet food, what is it? Do you thing of pleasure or pain? I bet its pleasure. Okay, now close your eyes and think of the same sweet food, but you in jeans three times the size, in discomfort and pain because of the increased weight. Associate as much pain to the food as possible. While sweet foods are pleasure to you, they’ll always be in control of you, not the other way around.
